"The Free Ticket"

The setup...


It's at least 95° outside, I am at home with my kids (school is out), I decide to take them to the pool. 
I get a call from my wife around lunch time, a friend (co-worker) has an extra ticket. 
She doesn't want to go. Looks like I am going to the show !!!

Her friend Karen isn't someone we know or hang out with, don't now much about her other than she works with my wife.
She tells my wife if I can get up there I can have the ticket and they will give me a ride home. I'm in, sounds good.

If you have been to or through Baltimore, you will know what the traffic is like on I-95 during rush hour traffic
on a weekday, but... it's a free ticket to see U2, right ?

I get up to the Inner Harbor, my wife drops me off around 6:30, I brought $200, figured I would at least buy a few rounds of beer.

I decided I would bring my R-05 and record the show, as a "just in case" recording. Having seen some of the comments and requests 
on the tour and in the past, I couldn't be one of those guys and figured if nobody else does record at least I can share what I have. 
Luckily the show was recorded and filmed by someone else.

I meet Karen, she is with her husband Tony and 3 kids... OK, no problem, then 4 other guys show up with their wives and kids. 

Here is where the fun begins... so Karen had purchased a block of 20 tickets, her husband and his buddies are Marines, 3 just 
returned from Afghanistan like a week before. Seen some bad shit. Big outing for them as families together. 
They are definitely fans of the band, more casual than the "die-hard" but they were into the show, even the kids.

These guys can drink and drink some more... my money is no good, they are buying beers for everyone every 10 minutes, 2 of the guys I am convinced were 
only there to drink, did I mention it is still 95° ?? M&T Bank Stadium is packed, I'm sweating right now thinking about how hot is was. 

Turns out these guys are real killers, no bullshit, hard ass guys. They had at least 5 tall beers before the show started and kept making runs
every other song through the entire show. They keep bringing me one too, I must have had 4-5 half full beers on the ground under the seat.

Kids are running back and forth, screaming, having fun, wives are just happy their husbands are home. A lot of emotion too. 

I can't complain at all, what can I say, what could I say ? So, I'm just there in the mix, at least I am seeing U2 and they didn't disappoint, 
one hell of a show with a fantastic setlist. These guys didn't know me at all and treated me like I was a brother / family.

The recording itself is listenable, but you will hear quite a bit of chatter, clapping (off beat), yelling, singing (bad) and some off the wall 
bat shit crazy comments. I can't really imagine what kind of stuff these guys had been through or seen, but they were glad to be home with their wives and kids. 
I am grateful for their service, you could tell they are proud to be U.S. Marines and to be home.

In the end..., some good people, U2 in Baltimore, the beer was flowing, everyone sweating and dancing.
I made it home safe to tell the story now. 

Always be cautious of the "Free Ticket" but I would do it again. 

+ Moment Of Surrender cuts off as everyone wanted to "leave early" to avoid traffic, they wanted to leave after One... good one !!
