I woke up to a message regarding the GA Floor seat. We exchanged messages and I
was reasonably confident it would work out although we were meeting at 6PM which
was when doors were scheduled to open. Nothing I could do about it so it was a
hope for the best. Got to The Sphere early and braved the wind and lined up at box
office in case they dropped seats. Everyone waiting was in a good and hopeful mood.
Two of the people in front of me me had bought tickets from Stubhub and were getting
Stubf'd like they are known to do. This was my fallback to get in even though the
seat may not have been good and I figured my odds were good. At 5 I got a message
from the woman with the ticket and she arrived at 6. We ended up lined up at a VIP
line and figured that if we got in I could get a good spot and otherwise I would have
to survive the pit. The soundcheck ran long and it was almost 7pm when doors opened.
Security was much tighter which seemed odd for a VIP line but made it in and to my
surprise I was one of the first 100 on the floor and got my spot. Luckily I was with
a bunch of good and quiet people around me and got the superb recording. The crowd
was excited and we god a couple gifts. Daniel Lanois who produced Achtung Baby joined
the band foe One and Neil Finn virtually joined in with a new verse of Don't Dream Its
Over to honor Alexei Navalny and his widow. I also realized why security was tighter
when Bono mentioned Jill Biden was there and I was going in the VIP entrance. Finally
as the show was concluding Bono hinted a real encore and since this was the 40th Sphere
show and they soundchecked 40 we knew it was coming. I felt so fortunate to be there for
that and the entire experience. It was just like in 1987 Joshua Tree shows where I went
the first night and got the recording albeit with technical issues so I got a second chance
to do it right. Hope everyone enjoys listening as much as I enjoyed recording.
