DocBox #8 - a series of concerts from a box in Doc basement

(Seed first torrented 21 June 2005.)

Parts of this appear all over the place, but here, in excellent quality, is most of the "good stuff" (i.e., the artists I care about) from the day-long, summer 1986 "Conspiracy Of Hope" concert in Giants Stadium, NJ, for Amnesty International. If you're as old as I am, you might remember watching this--MTV covered the whole thing (I think that is veejay Martha Quinn that you hear on some of the voiceovers here), and the commercials, mostly for Amnesty, were awesome ("dictatorship is a bitch" by Robin Williams, comes to mind).

This is from master, first-gen FM tapes in my basement (UDXL-IIs, NR off), taped directly off of the air. The tapes sound great--excellent dynamic range, not much hiss. The only processing I did was some fade ins/outs during the concert. No tape flips during songs (yeah, baby--that takes TALENT!). Included are the complete sets by Jackson Browne, Lou Reed, Joni Mitchell (played great with an impromptu band, despite the fact that you can hear her asking people to "stop pitching shit" at her), Peter Gabriel, The Police (re-formed after a breakup in the earlier 80s, and an incredibly energetic, tight set here), U2 (not included here due to DIME restrictions (unfortunate, because their set is also very good, with a rockin' "Sun City" which included most of the other acts as well).

I noticed avery brief dropouts (fraction of a sec) during "I Am A Patriot", low vocals initially during the first song of Joni's set--this was a mix problem and was corrected during the song. No diginoise, no saturation. All-in-all, a nearly 20-year-old tape that has held up very well.

Enjoy!
